Hi, I am Bonnie
Registered Clinical Counsellor
Master of Counselling Psychology
I’m a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.
I created The Breathing Room as a space where people can slow down and make room for experiences that may have been difficult to name, understand, or share.
A space that feels a little quieter,
a little softer,
and a little less overwhelming.
How I Work
To me, counselling is not about rushing to fix you or asking you to become someone different. It is about creating enough safety, curiosity, and understanding for you to hear yourself more clearly and begin responding to your life with greater care and choice.
While my approach is integrative, my work is grounded in a person-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach.
This means I will not assume that I understand your experience better than you do. Instead, I see counselling as a collaborative process, and I aim to understand your experiences within the context of your relationships, culture, identity, and lived experience.
Depending on your needs, our sessions may include emotional reflection, grounding, self-compassion, exploring relationship patterns, developing boundaries, making sense of difficult experiences, or finding practical ways to move forward.
Some sessions may involve gaining a clearer understanding of what is happening. Others may simply offer a place to say things out loud and feel genuinely heard.
The process will not be rushed or forced. We will begin from where you are and adjust the work according to your needs, pace, and capacity.

I work with adults navigating experiences such as:
Emotional overwhelm, anxiety, low mood, and burnout
Grief, loss, and life transitions
Chronic illness, disability, and health-related changes
Caregiving stress and helper fatigue
Relationship patterns, boundaries, and self-worth
Identity changes and feeling disconnected from yourself
The pressure to stay strong or hold everything together

My work is grounded in a person-centred, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach.
Depending on your needs, preferences, and goals, I may draw from cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, mindfulness, self-compassion, and parts-informed approaches.
These approaches may help us notice patterns in thoughts, emotions, and relationships, make sense of your experiences, recognize strengths and possibilities, develop practical coping strategies, and create space for different parts of your experience to be understood.
I do not believe that one approach fits everyone. We will work collaboratively to explore what feels meaningful, manageable, and useful for you, and adjust the counselling process as your needs evolve.
